Everlasting Muscle Car Enthusiasm

The term ‘Muscle car’ perhaps makes very little sense to a layman. But to an auto enthusiast, it means a world of things. ‘Car’ itself is a term that has varied levels of significance to different people. To some it is merely a mode of transportation, to others it is equivalent to a family member. But to a car enthusiast it implies everything. A common joke about auto enthusiasts goes like this. For the world ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’, but for car enthusiasts it is ‘Where there is a wheel, there is a way.’

If the general notion is that muscle car enthusiasts are by-products of modern-day cars, then that’s a mistake. Enthusiasm for muscle cars was born as early as the 60s when pioneers like Delorean created the muscle car revolution in the United States by designing the GTO, a muscle car, that’s the favorite of many even today. His creative ideas were responsible for many innovations in the later years. Today’s sports car industry would have been so different if not for this era of performance cars. 5ccd039683a18a8982dfab7436dac8fb.jpg

For any auto enthusiast today, there is a wide range of car photos and videos to view on the web. And with advertisers finding a new arena to explore on the internet, there are even virtual automobile showrooms for potential buyers, offering details about the models, features and best deals available. The internet is truly a boon to car enthusiasts who can get just what they want!

Kart Racing

318f84e9e605d293feb2362fc0bd0bed.jpg Karting or Go-karting as it is unofficially known, Kart Racing is a form of racing which involves simple, small four-wheeled vehicles. These small vehicles depending on their design are called karts, go-karts, or gearbox/shifter karts. Kart racing is generally considered to be the most economic form of motorsport available. It is also commonly perceived as the stepping stone to the higher and more expensive ranks of motorsports.

But never take these machines lightly, as some karts may reach top speeds of about 160mph, called as Superkarts. Superkart apart, a Formula A kart with 2-stroke engine can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds and reach top speeds up to 85mph. It is also considered as leisure time sport that can be performed by almost anybody. It is usually used as a low-cost and relatively safe way to introduce drivers to motor racing. I believe, this is one sport which every auto enthusiast must try out once in his lifetime.

Some of the popular karting championships include European KF1 Championship, Karting World Championship and Junior Monaco Kart Cup. Held annually in a different country, Karting World Championship is considered as the flagship event of the Kart Racing world.

Locally known as the Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo, the Monte Carlo Rally is an annual race that is held along the French Riviera in the Principality of Monaco and Southeast France. Being first race of the WRC (World Rally Championship) season, Monte Carlo Rally is also one of the most important rallies around, winning which gives the car and the driver a great deal of credibility and publicity. It also lets competitors to choose their starting points from approximately five venues roughly equidistant from Monaco itself.

This rally, also known for its most famous special stages in the world, which is run from La Bollène to Sospel over a steep and tight mountain road with many hairpin turns. In this stage, racers come across the Col de Turini, which normally has snow sections at that time of the year. Baja 1000

Previously known as “NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally”, Baja 1000 has been a rally of different order with many car enthusiasts following it around the world. This race takes place on Mexico's Baja California Peninsula in the fall and includes various types of vehicle classes such as small and large bore motorcycles, stock VW, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles.

Held since 1967, this rally has had it's own share of issues. Well the Baja has two course's included in it's race schedule. First being point-point race, that uasually starts from Ensenada (or Tijuana and Mexicali) and spans over 1000miles and later ends in La Paz. Second is the loop race that starts in Ensenada (it has also started in Mexicali) and with a course length of over 850miles ends back in the same place where it had begun.

Hey, check this out! Another peculiar fact about Baja 1000 is, it has made news for its “Sabotage and booby-traps”. These are traps, traps like digging holes, blocking river flow, or burying obstacles, set or created by local spectators as jumps or obstacles for spectator entertainment. Are these spectators crazy, they will kill those contestants man!

Dakar Rally

01236d13b335e477b0754f7d6a9eebc2.jpg The Dakar Rally , formerly known as The Paris Dakar, is an annual off-road race, organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation. Open to all riders, amateurs and professionals alike, the most prestigious rally-trek, sponsored by national and international federations, brings together an average 500 competitors every year, be it car, motorcycle or truck.

This concept was introduced in the year 1978 by racer Thierry Sabine after he got lost on his motorbike in the Libyan desert and then decided that this would be a good location for a regular rally. Since then, the Paris-Dakar has been a unique event sparked by the spirit of adventure, carrying a message of friendship between all men. Over the course of almost thirty years, it has generated innumerable sporting and human stories and has never failed to challenge, surprise or excite us.

Originally, the rally was from Paris, France to Dakar, Senegal through the treacherous desert, interrupted by a transfer across the Mediterranean, however due to politics and other factors, the course, including origin and destination, have been varied over the years.

The rally has also had its share of criticism from several sources. Some of the accusations are about the race's impact on the inhabitants of the countries through which it passes, environmental impact and killing of the local inhabitants and livestock due to collisions with vehicles involved in the race.
Even with these accusations and its own share of problems of being cancelled or stopped, the Dakar Rally has been a great entertainer for many car enthusiasts all over the world.
